A leading public sector organisation based in Glasgow is seeking a highly experienced Senior Finance Manager to join their team on a contract basis. This is a pivotal role within the finance function, offering the opportunity to lead financial operations, drive strategic planning, and support service delivery across a £60m+ organisation.
Your new role
As Senior Finance Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing financial systems, processes, and controls to ensure compliance with public sector regulations and standards. You will lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, act as a finance business partner to operational teams, and provide commercial and strategic financial insights to senior stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the preparation and presentation of budgets and forecasts in collaboration with service managers
- Monitoring financial performance, analysing variances, and reporting to senior leadership
- Acting as a finance business partner, offering insights and support to operational teams
- Overseeing financial reporting and presenting at committee meetings when required
- Driving continuous improvement in financial systems and processes
- Supporting financial aspects of business tenders and contract renewals
- Managing utilities monitoring and liaising with suppliers and brokers
- Leading the implementation and oversight of internal Housing Benefit processes
- Providing leadership and mentorship to finance staff, including dotted-line oversight of a Senior Management Accountant and direct management of transactional finance teams
What you'll need to succeed
- Proven experience in a senior finance role, ideally within the social care or wider public sector
- Strong understanding of public sector financial regulations and reporting standards
- Demonstrated ability to lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
- Experience in systems development and process improvement
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
