Projects Associate or Senior Associate (4+ PQE)

A leading international law firm is seeking an experienced Projects Associate or Senior Associate to join its highly regarded Energy, Transport & Infrastructure practice in Scotland.
This is a standout opportunity for a projects lawyer who wants to work on high‑profile, complex and often first‑of‑their‑kind matters that directly support the UK’s infrastructure growth and the transition to net zero.
The Team & Practice
You will join an award‑winning projects team with a long-standing reputation for excellence across:
- Energy (including renewables, offshore wind, oil & gas, hydrogen, CCUS)
- Transport and infrastructure (rail, roads, bridges, airports, water, defence, telecoms)
- PFI/PPP and project finance
The practice advises a broad mix of government bodies, regulators, developers, funders and major infrastructure operators and is consistently ranked in the top tiers of the legal directories.
The team is highly integrated across Scotland and works closely with colleagues across the UK and internationally, offering exposure to market‑leading transactions, regulatory reform and landmark projects.
The Role
This role will suit a lawyer with a curious, commercial mindset who enjoys solving new and complex problems. You will:
- Advise on a wide range of energy and infrastructure projects across their full lifecycle
- Work closely with both public and private sector clients
- Draft and negotiate sophisticated project and commercial contracts
- Assess and allocate legal and commercial risk pragmatically
- Play an active role in client relationships and business development
- Have genuine opportunities to build a practice and progress towards Senior Associate, Counsel or Partner level
Work is primarily UK and Ireland focused, with opportunities for international matters.
Candidate Profile
You will ideally have:
- 4+ years’ PQE in projects, infrastructure and/or energy
- Strong contractual drafting skills and commercial awareness
- Experience of project finance, PPP or regulated infrastructure (desirable)
- Rail, transport or utilities experience (advantageous but not essential)
- The confidence to work independently while contributing effectively to large, multi‑disciplinary teams
