Role Overview

Our client is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their growing Building Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Building Services Engineer to take a leading role in the delivery of complex and technically challenging projects across a range of sectors, including life sciences, industrial, defence, commercial and highly regulated environments.

 

As a senior member of the engineering team, you will be responsible for delivering innovative and sustainable mechanical design solutions, managing project delivery, and leading multidisciplinary collaboration from concept through to completion. You'll play a key role in maintaining technical excellence, developing client relationships, and mentoring engineers to support the continued growth of the team.

 

This position would suit a Chartered (or near Chartered) Mechanical Engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects, leading teams, and working on bespoke engineering challenges that require creative and practical solutions.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Design and specify mechanical building services systems in accordance with current regulations, standards and project requirements.
  • Lead the mechanical discipline on a range of projects, ensuring successful delivery to programme, budget and quality expectations.
  • Manage project resources, workloads and technical outputs across multiple projects.
  • Produce and review technical deliverables, including calculations, specifications, reports and design documentation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, project stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor and champion quality assurance processes and compliance standards across projects.
  • Support and mentor engineers and technicians, encouraging professional development and technical excellence.
  • Contribute to project planning, risk management and project delivery strategies.
  • Promote innovation and sustainable engineering solutions within project designs.

 

 

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent, or actively working towards Chartership.
  • Proven experience delivering mechanical building services projects within one or more relevant sectors.
  • Experience managing medium-sized projects or leading mechanical work packages on larger multidisciplinary schemes.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services design and current industry regulations.
  • Ability to manage project delivery, including programme, resource, cost and quality considerations.
  • Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
  • Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary design teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Commitment to quality, compliance and continuous improvement.
