This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a new logistics function, developing the strategy, infrastructure and processes needed to deliver a more efficient, cost-effective and customer-focused distribution model across Scotland.
Rather than inheriting an established operation, you will have the opportunity to build a function from the ground up, taking an initial concept through planning and implementation to full operational delivery. Initially focused on residential deliveries, the role will involve evaluating transport solutions, establishing operational processes and collaborating with key stakeholders to develop a scalable and sustainable model, with the support of a wider business and the opportunity to make a genuine impact on its future growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of a new Scottish logistics and distribution operation, from initial planning through to operational delivery.
- Review existing logistics research and recommendations to identify the most commercially viable and operationally effective distribution model.
- Develop and implement a logistics strategy, initially focused on residential deliveries, with potential to expand into commercial distribution.
- Evaluate transport solutions, including vehicle purchase versus leasing and employed drivers versus subcontracted providers.
- Establish efficient processes for warehousing, stock management, delivery scheduling and transport coordination.
- Take ownership of logistics costs, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce expenditure and enhance service delivery.
- Collaborate with sales, operations, manufacturing and external partners to deliver an effective end-to-end customer experience.
- Implement robust systems, processes and controls to support operational performance, health and safety, and customer service.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, promoting clear communication and effective problem-solving.
- Identify future resource requirements, with the opportunity to recruit, develop and lead a small logistics team.
- Drive continuous improvement, developing a scalable logistics function that supports the business's long-term growth and operational objectives.
About You
- Proven experience in logistics, transport or distribution, with the confidence and ambition to develop an operation from the ground up.
- Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to evaluate costs, assess options and make sound recommendations.
- A proactive, hands-on approach, translating ideas and plans into practical, workable solutions.
- Excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills across multiple business functions.
- Comfortable working autonomously and taking ownership in an evolving environment.
- A proven ability to introduce new systems, improve processes and drive operational change.
- Strong customer focus, recognising the importance of reliable, efficient deliveries.
- A collaborative, solutions-focused individual with drive, resilience and determination.
- Experience within manufacturing, supply chain or product-based distribution, and exposure to residential or B2C deliveries, would be advantageous but not essential.
