An unusual opportunity has been created for a Data Protection Lawyer (or Officer) to join the wider Risk team within this global law firm. Ideally the role would be based in Glasgow (with flexible/agile working) but other locations may be considered such as Edinburgh.
The purpose of this in-house role is to assist in providing proactive and professional support to the firm, specifically to the Head of Privacy (a lawyer with 20 years' data protection experience). As a member of the Risk team you will work closely with other business operations teams and directly interface with the client-facing side of the business on privacy and data protection issues across the global firm. The firm is keen to build its dedicated and specialised internal data protection team, which whilst not doing chargeable work for the firm’s clients, will liaise with the client-facing Information Law team to share experience, knowledge and expertise. You will be encouraged to have and develop your own areas of interest and expertise within data protection, whilst maintaining an overview of all aspects of data protection compliance for the firm, and sharing work and knowhow with the rest of the Privacy team.
The successful candidate will have solid experience of advising on data protection in a commercial environment, including carrying out risk assessments, reviewing suppliers’ privacy documentation, drafting privacy notices and policies and advising on marketing issues.
Key responsibilities include
- Carrying out privacy impact assessments, data transfer assessments and other data protection risk assessments;
- Assisting with security incident assessments, remediation and breach notification;
- Providing data protection input on client terms, questionnaires and bids;
- Working with key stakeholders on data protection aspects of the firm's projects and procurement, including RFPs and negotiating data protection provisions with suppliers;
