Accounting & Business Services Manager / Director Designate
Glasgow City Centre | up to £65,000 + Benefits | Hybrid
Are you an experienced Accounting / Business Services Manager within practice looking for a genuine route to Director, without the layers, politics or limitations that can come with a larger accountancy firm?
Lusona is working exclusively with an established and highly regarded independent accountancy practice in Glasgow to appoint a Business Services Manager as part of its continued growth and longer-term succession planning.
This is an opportunity to join a successful, close-knit firm where you'll enjoy genuine autonomy, direct access to Partners and the chance to play a meaningful role in the future of the business.
Crucially, there is a clear ambition to develop the successful candidate through Associate to Director, potentially within two years for someone already operating at an experienced Manager level.
The Opportunity
You'll take responsibility for a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses, combining hands-on client management with the supervision and development of a team of accountants and trainees.
Unlike roles where Managers can become removed from clients or restricted to overseeing compliance processes, this position offers the opportunity to remain closely involved in the work, develop trusted relationships with business owners and contribute to wider commercial advice.
Working directly with the Partners, you'll have the freedom to take ownership, make decisions and influence how client services are delivered.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a varied portfolio of clients, acting as their principal point of contact.
- Review year-end accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders.
- Oversee management accounts, financial reporting and more complex accounting assignments.
- Develop strong client relationships, identifying opportunities to provide additional business and tax advice.
- Supervise, review and support the development of qualified accountants and trainees.
- Work closely with Partners on client projects, technical matters and commercial advice.
- Ensure consistently high standards of client service and delivery.
About You
We're interested in speaking with qualified CA or ACCA accountants who have developed strong technical and client management experience within a UK accountancy practice. You could already be an established Manager or an ambitious Assistant Manager ready to step up.
You'll ideally offer:
- Strong technical experience across accounts preparation and management accounts
- Experience managing relationships with owner-managed businesses.
- The confidence to take responsibility for client portfolios and work autonomously.
- Experience reviewing work, supervising staff and developing junior colleagues.
- A proactive, commercially minded approach to client service.
- The ambition to progress into a senior leadership role
Above all, we're looking for someone who enjoys working directly with clients, takes pride in developing others and wants to build a long-term career within a business where their contribution will genuinely matter.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
A genuine pathway to Director
This is a succession-led appointment rather than simply a replacement hire. The firm is actively looking to develop its next generation of leadership, with a clear route through Associate to Director for the right individual.
Real autonomy and client ownership
You'll have meaningful responsibility for your own portfolio, working closely with business owners and playing an active role in their financial and commercial affairs.
A collaborative, hands-on culture
You'll work alongside accessible Partners and Directors who remain actively involved in client work. It's an environment where people work together, decisions are made quickly and individual contributions are valued.
Variety and commercial exposure
With a diverse and established client base, you'll enjoy a broad range of accounting and advisory work rather than being confined to a narrow specialism.
Stability with opportunity
Join a well-established, growing independent practice with a reputation for retaining its people and offering genuine long-term career development.
