Many of us enter into a New Year with an idea of what we want to achieve or something we desire to stop or change.
More than often career is in the mix. Maybe for you it is a consideration of work-life balance; how you move up the corporate ladder; or do your personal values match up with the corporate values of your employer? Perhaps you have that dream entrepreneurial idea that needs to come to life or it is time to take a sabbatical or career break.
I was struck a couple of years' back when it was quoted that in the West we spend on average 35% (over one third) of our total waking hours in the work place over a 50 year working-life period assuming 8 hours of sleep a night. If that is the case, it is fair to assume that work plays a significant part in our lives - both directly in terms of sheer quantity of hours spent and also indirectly in relation to how it impacts the remaining 65%.
If you haven't done it already, January is a great time to assess or reassess your life priorities including career. Priorities in life ultimately change hence the need to stop and assess again.
Here is three questions worth considering:
1. If I could have one more thing in my life, what would it be?
2. If I were my friend and not me, what advice would I give myself?
3. Why do I dread Sunday nights and Monday mornings?
